The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant prize-giving event draws close, one notices an outcry for introducing fresh award types to honor overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent small games, however the design in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most popular titles worldwide and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier game development, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
