The artist has handed over the entirety of his £25k honor winnings to the MVT, which works to preserve the Britain's independent music venues.

The star was given the prize on October 16 as his latest record People Watching was chosen as the outstanding release of the previous year.

Fender has decided to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"As an artist would not have achieved this success if it wasn't for all the shows I did around the area, and beyond, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, well-known musicians like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a modest fee to their ticket prices, which goes to help independent venues.

Fender also took part, raising over £100k on his live tour to support 38 grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation helped spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to issues caused by flooding, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces were granted financial assistance in modernizing infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted musicians and audiences.

"The notion that money from concerts in major spaces backs the smaller venues, where it all starts for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has said.

Fender is among several artists to give his award winnings to worthy causes.

In the band earned the trophy in the mid-90s for their release their work, vocalist Jarvis Cocker announced that the group would contribute their prize money to the non-profit the charity.

That year, rapper and singer the artist divided her prize between several charities, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also donated a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective contributed their funds to the community center that supported their act, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also winners that year M People gave their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"Winning was ample," said artist Small. "The money was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the main prize. So our success affected somebody else's life."

Last week, the trust shared it had rescued two grassroots venues in the South East, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in that area and the other in Bristol were acquired under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is backed by the arts council and enthusiasts who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
